Housing Guide
This project was an annual housing guide for students at Duquesne University. Layout prioritized the presentation of interview quotes and statistics for each residence hall while evoking a classic, late 80’s, early 90’s feeling. This stylizing was meant not just to be aesthetically pleasing, but to offer readers ample space to write their own notes throughout the issue. The full issue can be viewed here.
Throwback Issue
This project was part of an annual tradition of replicating the layout of previous editions of the college paper. This issue emulated the layout of The Duquesne Duke during the 1960s. Special attention was paid to matching graphics like the logo, the layout of the body copy, and to editing the photos for black-and-white print on newsprint paper. This last point presented a significant challenge as we were unable to do any testing before sending the issue to print. The full issue can be found here. (Note: The file hosted by the current members of the student paper is corrupted, and the pictures/graphics appear to be significantly compressed. This appears to only be an issue with this digital copy of the paper.)
Best of/Worst of Issue 2017
This project was part of an annual tradition of student writers discussing their favorite and least favorite media of the year. The main challenge of this issue was compressing a significant amount of copy into only a few pages while also including interesting graphics. Layout decisions included cutting unnecessary copy and designing graphics so text is legible when printed. The saturation and color-grading of computer monitors made these decisions particularly challenging, especially since we were unable to conduct testing before sending for print. The full issue can be found here. (Note: The file hosted by the current members of the student paper is corrupted, and the yellow-color channel was note exported properly in some graphics.)
